If you read my Leading Carol blog, you might have read that I’m going to doing some editing/blogging on a holistic community forum called All Things Healing. I thought I write here about their art therapy page.

On their page, they combine arts and art therapy. http://www.allthingshealing.com/fine-healing-visual-art-therapy.php While they cover a range of arts related therapy, they have some focus blogs/forums on art therapy. They have an article focused on Erica Curtis and her work in art therapy with elderly and another article on her work with brain injury. She has been profiled as an art therapist, as have I. They also put in an article on the benefits of hiring credentialed art therapists. I am happy they include work on trauma as well. So while I may be focused on the Non-Profits/Orgs page, I may see if I can submit an article or two on art therapy!

All Things Healing is seeking an Assistant Editor for their art therapy page is anyone out there is interested! For more information please contact Eden Kozlowski atedenk@allthingshealing.com

Yesterday I presented on Instinctual Trauma Treatment and Art Therapy with survivors of sexually violent crimes. I presented to the Hampton Newport News Community Services Board. It was fun with a great and interactive audience. I spend so much time doing administrative work that I forget how fun it is to go out and share information with people, discuss cases, etc. I also got to revisit the immense and intense work that social workers do in community service boards. Kudos to all the staff there who support the folks who need services that aren’t available in the private practice sector. You do great work.

The Instinctual Trauma Response model is a really nice model of treatment to use with some of our survivors of crime. It allows for multiple orientations of therapy to address the trauma with an engaged treatment team to work with the client.

I meant to take pictures and post but I will at the one on Saturday at Old Dominion University.

Excited to be presenting on art therapy twice this upcoming week. One in Hampton and one in Norfolk. It’s always fun to present to fellow art therapists and counselors. I’ll get to focus on working with children and families who are survivors of sexual abuse/violence and other interpersonal trauma. It’s always a nice break to present to professionals who work with similar populations as I get to learn from them as much as I teach. Plus I get to see what is going on in other areas of the state. It’ll be fun this weekend getting ready for it. I’ll post details when I finalize them.
