Ways Art Therapy can Support Domestic Violence Awareness – host a party
October 5th, 2010 § Leave a Comment
Host a creative party to support your local shelter. Examples:
Valentine’s Anytime Party: February 14th only comes once a year, but Break the Cycle encourages you to celebrate healthy relationships all year round! Valentine’s Anytime is a fun way for anyone and everyone to get involved in the movement to end domestic violence.
Throw a party with an artistic and affirming way – create an altered book event, one that promotes the transformation of stereotypical roles of women into empowered roles. Choose books that show oppression of women or depict relationships of women in dependent and un-empowered roles and transform them through creative alterations into personal themes on healthy and affirming relationships. Utilize this theme of transforming disempowering messages into empowering messages as a means to educate attendees into reclaiming power in their life.
