Art for Your Heart is a time to get together and Make Art!
Events are casual and are meant as a time for all of us to spend time with friends, old and new, make art and support one another as a community of Art Therapists.
Refreshments will be served and a variety of art materials are provided.
Art for Your Heart is held every other month, on the second Sunday of the month with exceptoins for holiday.
The Next Art for Your Heart is on April 1st
Locations include Richmond and Hampton Roads

Mindfulness in Art Therapy through Mandala and Labyrinth work
Workshop led by Karen Montgomery, ATR, C-SOTP
March 24th , 2012
At Eastern Virginia Medical School , Norfolk Va
In this workshop participants will create personal mandalas and clay finger labyrinths, learning how to integrate these sacred circles as psychotherapy and meditation tools to heal emotional trauma, manage grief and pain, reduce stress, increase self-awareness, and find inner peace. Focus is on a subliminal, metaphorical, unified process to work with clients in both clinical settings and in self-healing and mindfulness practice.

Upcoming presentation on art therapy with child abuse survivors

I’m excited to present for the Virginia Treatment Center for Children on using art and sand tray therapy with sexually abused children. The workshop is on the 28th and held at the Ginter Park Botanical Gardens. I will also focus on my use of large sculptural pieces in working with families. It’s been a while since I presented on clinical work and I’m doing two this month! I’ll report back on how it went.
